MarIa Elida Scassa is a Chemist from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (FCEyN) from the University of Buenos Aires. She did her PhD thesis at the Biological Chemistry Department, FCEyN under the supervision of Dr. Eduardo Cánepa. Her thesis was focused on the study of the signal transduction pathways and transcription factors involved in the regulation of 5-aminolevulinate synthase gene expression by insulin. During her PhD she did three study internships at the laboratory of Dr. John Burch member of the Cell and Developmental Biology Program at the Fox Chase Cancer Center, Philadelphia. From 2002 to 2008 Maria has been teaching Molecular Biology and Biological Chemistry at the Biological Chemistry Department, FCEyN, UBA. In 2008 she became a member of the professional staff of researchers of LIAN-FLENI. Her areas of research include the study of cell cycle regulation, apoptotic programs, and DNA repair mechanisms displayed by human pluripotent cells exposed to different stress stimuli. Since 2008 Maria supervised 3 doctoral theses, and currently she several directs graduate and post-graduate CONICET fellows.
