Dr. Leonardo Romorini

In 2003 Leonardo Romorini obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences at the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires. He completed his doctorate at IFIBYNE and at the Department of Biological Chemistry, FCEyN, UBA under the direction of Dr. Adalí Pecci, investigating the regulation of gene expression in mammary epithelium. He started working at FLENI in 2009 after obtaining his doctorate degree. Dr. Romorini also served as a teacher of various subjects in the Department of Biological Chemistry of the FCEyN UBA (2005-2015) and since 2018 he is Adjunct Professor of the Department of Applied Sciences and Technology of the National University of Moreno. In 2014, he entered the CONICET Researcher Career at LIAN-FLENI as a researcher and in 2017 he promoted to the category of Associate Researcher.

Currently his work group is dedicated to:

  • Study the effects of hypoxia and microRNAs in the maintenance of the stemness, in the survival and in the differentiation to the neural lineage of human pluripotent stem cells.
  • Modeling neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer’s disease, from the generation of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPs) by reprogramming patient cells and subsequent differentiation to a neural phenotype in 2 and 3 dimensions.
